Mr. Hampton Ross in London was left for settlement

by the University Council when reconstituted in

Hong Kong.

It was agreed that a notification should be issued

in the United Kingdom and in Hong Kong calling for

applications for lectureships in Chemistry

Mathematics, History and Biology (Botany and

Zoology) and for a junior lectureship in English:

the appointments to be in the first instance for three years and at salaries for lecturers f

£550-25-600 and for the junior lecturer £500-20-54C

a year together with a cost of living allowance

based on the scale that may be paid by the

Government of Hong Kong to officers on like terms

of service. The normal arrangements for passages

and provident fund payments will hold in all cases.

The Committee agreed that Mr. Sloss should

Mr. G.B. Endacott to a History Lectureship in the

University, at a starting salary of not less than

£700.

The Committee agreed that Mr. Morse should act as

Treasurer with full authority to sign for and on

behalf of University in Hong Kong.

It was agreed that the Committee had exceeded its powers

in sanctioning approval of expenditure of an amount of

H.K. $350,000, the approval having been telegraphed to the

Governor of Hong Kong on the 27th August, 1946. It was

agreed that the attention of the Governor and of the

University Interim Committee in Hong Kong should be drawn

to this poition with the recommendation that it might await

sanction by the University Council when reconstituted or

alternatively that it might be regarded as a provisional

/advance
